What really hurts a club isn't court bookings.

The "volunteer" coaches

Half of Spain pays coaches a fixed monthly "expense allowance" — exactly what the Labour Inspectorate treats as disguised employment, with retroactive contributions and, since 2023, criminal exposure. Meanwhile a 100 % social-security rebate for hiring them legally goes unused.

The invisible tax trap

The club "pays no taxes"… until one €2,500 sponsorship forces it to file corporate income tax. VAT-exempt membership fees coexist with the bar and advertising at 21 %, and nobody computes the pro-rata that mix requires.

What clubs ask us

Can I really hire my coaches at near-zero social security cost?
If your club is a registered non-profit sports entity and the coach trains non-professional minors, Law 7/2024 rebates 100 % of the employer's common-contingency contributions (code 9941, in force since December 2024). DEPORSET checks eligibility per person, computes the saving and keeps the supporting file in case Social Security reviews it.
My club is small. Does it have to file corporate income tax?
It's only exempt from filing if it meets three conditions at once: total income up to €75,000, non-exempt income (bar, advertising, rentals, courses for non-members) up to €2,000, and all of it subject to withholding. A single €2,500 sponsorship triggers the duty to file. DEPORSET watches all three thresholds live and warns before they're crossed.
I pay my coaches as volunteers with a fixed allowance. Is that risky?
Very. Legal volunteering only allows reimbursement of documented expenses: a fixed, periodic amount points to disguised employment, which the Labour Inspectorate pursues with retroactive registration and contributions — and since the 2023 reform of art. 311 of the Criminal Code, with criminal exposure. DEPORSET registers each volunteer with their agreement, insurance and receipts, and warns when an allowance looks like a salary.
What exactly does Spanish child-protection law require from my club?
If your organisation works with minors — whatever its size —: an appointed and trained safeguarding officer, an approved action protocol, staff training, and a negative criminal-record certificate (sex offenders registry) for every person in regular contact with minors, volunteers included. DEPORSET keeps it as a living file, watches every expiry date, and prints it as-is for an inspection.
Do membership fees carry VAT?
If the club is a non-profit social entity, sports services to individuals are VAT-exempt. But the bar, the shop, advertising and facility rental are taxed — and that mix requires a pro-rata almost nobody computes.
